Corrals for Handling Beef Cattle

This Alberta Agriculture publication explains the cattle handling equation. The book starts with cattle behavior and handling techniques and then looks at coral design, geometry, and components. It includes more dm 60 design drawings and corral plans. These designs cover gates, pens, fences, scales, alleys, chutes and other working areas. Each design includes a cost index based on a minimum working corral. This basic corral is pegged at between $1,200 and $1,400 for materials. The book was reviewed by industry experts. 91 pages.

This publication, published by the Oklahoma Cooperative Extension Service, addresses working cattle efficiently and safely with much less labor. Recommendations and design specifications feature plans for three different working facilities, including a simpler, more economical one for small cattle operations. Sections include information about site selection, the main components of the actual working areas, holding and sorting facilities for safe and efficient animal flow and a step-by-step construction sequence. Details are given for including options such as scales, different headgates, loading chutes, a hospital area, a palpation cage, and a calf table in the design. 60 pages.
